We had dinner with our new friends and then each choir performed individually and then en mass for a well attended concert at the Raye Freedman Auditorium.
July Hobbiton Movie Set! Hobbiton is the film set of the Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. It was fun to see all the little houses built into the side of the hills. We were all served ginger beer in the tavern. Maori customs were demonstrated and explained and then we watched a concert performed by the Maori people and were then treated to a Maori Hangi feast. The children are elementary students in a community that celebrates their Maori culture.
We sang for them and then they sang some traditional songs for us. It was cold and wet, but we had a great time. For the first time this year we signed up to Young Voices — it was such a great day that we are already signed up for next year too! Young Voices is all about inspiring children to find their love for music and gives them the chance to be part of something much bigger than just their school choir.
Then onto the afternoon rehearsal with the conductor and band, followed by the concert at 7. At our concert there were young singers, plus dancers to help us with moves and signing , and other acts Urban Strides street dance group and BeatBox Collective — an amazing trio of beatboxers who worked with us to put together a really exhilarating and entertaining evening.
We arrived back at school just after midnight, tired out but thoroughly pumped up!
