Why tamils hate kannadigas

Whoever the ruler they will be the establishment. Tamils will be the downtrodden. Tamils want friends not masters. Thanks for posting "others'" perpsective. However, whether it is right or wrong is to be discussed later.

No, Tamils are not the ones who campaigned for linguistic division of the whole nation. Ever heard of Potti Sriramulu? He was a Telugu speaking man. He fasted to death demanding a state based on Telugu language. Jawaharlal Nehru, who until then opposed such a division, decided to give in - AndhraPradesh was formed from the erstwhile "Madras state". That Tamil Nadu formed based on Tamil language was only a consequence.

Such a state was supposed to consist of the four southern states. So ask your friends to read a little about south indian history too to improve their perspectives. I think there is a misunderstanding here. Tamilians are not haters of any language.

It is the imposition that they are against. Professor Anna Durai said in the Indian Parliament once that an arithmetic majority for Hindi speaking people alone should not be considered, but also its geographical distribution. If there had been distribution of Hindi speaking islands amidst other linguistic regions through out India, there would have been some validity in maintaining Hindi as a national language for all purposes.

This "we are majority, let the minorities live at our mercy" syndrome is killing our nation. People have to realize that there is no such thing as "a majority" in India in reality. One can make any type of combination to show a majority.

But in reality we are a nation of large minorities. If people have the necessity to learn a language for their survival, they'll do it on their own. We are already having problems in Tamil Nadu with people feeling inferior if they talk in Tamil. We are trying our best to eradicate this inferiority complex.

At this time we don't want to be dominated by any other language for some time. We have our problems. So let us clean out our backyards first. People have to come closer to take a look. They really don't know how many Tamils support terrorist organizations because of the word "Tamil".

I am not surprised at this attitude because it comes from people who think "Madras" is one small region in the "south" with some tongue twisting "Madrasi" languages, who wear dhotis, paint their foreheads with stripes and act clumsy on everything. Looks like they haven't gone much into the south. Telugus have been ruled by the Congress for a majority of their time.

Until Congress ruled Tamil Nadu, Hindi was being taught in schools. Also Hindi is spoken in Muslim dominated areas in Andhra Pradesh like Hyderabad, Machlipatnam other regions where Muslims ruled ages ago.

Try talking in Hindi in rural AndhraPradesh. You'll get the same response as when talking in Tamil in Bihar. Is that right? How many Kannadigas have you guys seen? Bangalore is not all of Karnataka.

Remember that. Northern Kannadigas speak in Marathi too. Pamini Sultans ruled almost all over Karnataka for centuries. Mysore was ruled by Tippu Sultan and Hyder Ali.

As mentioned earlier, wherever Muslims have ruled, people have been influenced more by north Indian culture and language. I am not surprised that the average urban Kannadiga is tolerant to Hindi.

Do you guys know that "Urdu" originated in the Deccan region? It was called "Dhakni" before it took its final shape. As far as we are concerned Hindia is a language coming from a far away place in India which is geographically concentrated on the other end of the nation from us. It is totally different from our language.

Asking us to show interest in it because it suits some northerners, sounds very arrogant to us. So ask these "others" to understand our perspectives too. Will you like it if a Mandarin Chinese guys comes to you and asks you something in Mandarin and complains that you don't reply him in that language even though it is spoken by the majority of the people on earth? After all, it is spoken by the majority, so every one in the world should learn it.

It is for the good of the whole world. Shall we all convert to Christianity and go to church because it is the religion of the majority.

Or shall we all convert to Islam, because in the future probably it will become the largest religion? The same logic applies for langauge too. Why are people killing each other in the name of religion up north? We have Muslims living in Tamil Nadu too. But we didn't cut each other's throat during independence. How come there are frequent Hindu-Muslim riots up north?

Aren't these guys fanatics too? They are fighting each other for the deeds of their ancestors? Why do millions go naked during Kubh Mela and dip themselves in the filthiest of rivers? Aren't they fanatics too? Those who live in glass houses try not throwing stones on others. I just checked around my neck. Thank God, I don't have a cynide capsule around it.

If they want to carry cynide on their necks, that's their pleasure. We, the Indian Tamils have to survive and eke out a livelihood.

Your friends have no right to complain about westerners when they assume India to be full of snake charmers, cows, naked fakirs, kings and tigers. These guys have almost the same perpective about their fellow countrymen. Every state in India has rules and laws demanding the people to know the language of their soils. Go to Maharashtra or Karnataka or any other state. Only now Jayalalitha has made it compulsory for everyone domiciled in Tamil Nadu to strictly learn Tamil.

And, she is very much right about it. Others are doing much more than we do. But they are doing it silently and getting away with it. I am getting tired of these views. When will it all end? Partha sarathy. Hindi a neighbouring language to Andhra Pradesh???? The five neighbouring states of AP are in anti-clockwise direction Orissa, almost insignificant amount of border with Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Tamilnadu. Marathi is recognised in only a few villages in Adilabad district; Oriya probably in Srikakulam district I doubt it though; Telugu speaking majority continues beyond Srikakulam into Berhampur of Orissa and beyond; so the actual buffer region between the two languages extends beyond the borders of Andhra Pradesh.

But Kannada and Tamil are quite well recognised in almost all districts of Rayalaseema, i. Ananthapur, Chittoor, Nellore and Cuddapah - if you speak Tamil or Kannada in these places, there is a high chance that you will be answered back in the same language well, within limits of semantics ofcourse. Hindi acceptance has more to do with Nizam rule in Hyderabad and the surrounding districts of Nizamabad, Adilabad etc. Urdu was the official language then; Hindi being close to spoken Urdu, people in those regions have taken to it very fast.

Yes, I've stayed in Madras for 4 years. I know one experience does not prove anything, but Sudarshan has a point with this issue] Please give us the credit when it is due; unlike Tamils who opposed Hindi tooth and nail, we Telugus correctly recognised that Hindi is our link to the rest of India and accepted it. In their reluctance to accept Hindi in any form, Tamils are missing out on a very rich mixture of literature, film songs from Hindi etc; it is certainly a big loss.

Siva Prasad. I find it very irritating that people blame Andhra Pradesh for being the first linguistic state in the nation and thus "setting a chain of linguistic carvings of the country". And Potti Sriramulu is being very unfairly criticized. I used to think it was an entertainment for Kannadigas in Bangalore to chase Tamils and kill them when they had no time-pass. Something like that happened in There has been nothing like that before or after that incident.

Whatever be the case - be it anybody's - 18 lives are not that cheap. Those who did it have to be punished by the law of the land. There is no question about it. It's true that every Tamilian in Bangalore gets scared of his life every time this issue comes up. It's a matter of livelihood for the Tamils in Tanjore whereas it's a matter of life for the Tamils in Bangalore.

But, are the Kannadigas such bad people? My personal opinion is - "No, they are not! I keep saying this - "Leaving exceptions aside, an average Kannadiga is a better human being than an average Tamilian.

I am not saying this to please my friends in Bangalore to gain any extra benefits. I have reasons to say this. Let's talk about them. Why should I talk about those reasons or why should all Tamils have the right understanding about Kannadigas?

My answer is - Not all problems have to be settled in supreme court. I may have many problems with my brother on a day-to-day basis. We can't go to a court for each problem on daily basis. Whether we like it or not, we have to live together. We are inter-dependent. There is no point in being adamant about our points of view and growing the bitterness. It will take us nowhere. One argument of Kannadigas that I agree with is - "If it was the other way around and we were to depend on Tamil Nadu for our water needs, we wouldn't get even a few drops of what we are giving you guys now!

I am more than sure that the Tamil politicians who are worse than their counterparts in Karnataka would have played dirtier games with this issue. After Kamaraj, we never had a decent chief minister. We didn't even have someone like Krishna. So, any one from Tamil Nadu would have been as good as him or worse than him but not better. We could have solved this problem without coming to streets. It was politicized by politicians from both states.

There were lots of unwanted rhetoric, sound bites, interviews and speeches that wouldn't help solve the problem. Tamils in Bangalore also have to learn some basic etiquette. This is another complaint Kannadigas have. They ask, "Why do we not hate Telugus or Malayalis as much as we hate you guys? I agree to this to some extent. The other two groups don't hurt their sentiments when they are there in someone else's land for their livelihood.

But, Tamils are little too much. Maybe because they are huge in number. Or, may be because some of their grandfathers or great grandfathers have been part of the city's growth story right from the beginning.

I know of some people who were migrated from northern parts of Tamil Nadu to Bangalore for all daily wage laborer jobs by British themselves long time back. Its not gonna help our farmers here, rather it might worsen the situation of Tamils in Karnataka. Nature united people, but politicians CauveryIssue pic. Indeed, the social media posts are a worthwhile reminder of the complexities of the current Cauvery agitation which date back decades and actually are the result of another thing that both Karnataka and Tamil Nadu share: Both states have terribly mismanaged their water and have local media networks that have done l ittle to help the situation.

Since vehicles were not allowed inside the stand, he asked me to go and collect my belongings.

And then, he even dropped me back to the same place from where we had started. This was one man who was not concerned about where I came from, what language I spoke, or what religion I followed. All he was doing was helping me out in a time of need, just for the sake of humanity. Do you have something to share?
